Time for some ' competitive intelligence' :)
The 2 sites on spot # 1 and #2 are actually showing up for a lot of related terms as well; so I wanted to take a closer look and their incoming links

and plugged in the first site
important here is to select only the incoming links and only the links that are coming from outside the page.
I am only showing the first couple of results here ( for some reason blogger will not let me import a full screen capture right now )
but basically the whole page looks like that. There are 3 or 4 blogs providing hundreds( thousands of back links to the site )
which probably means their link is those sites sidebar or footer.
The other interesting thing is that the site is being linked to by multiple profiles at " The Knot " which is probably THE authority site when it comes to weddings.
the second site is actually a little different. ALL their links come from maybe 4 or five sitesbuzzle and, I assume their sister site 'vegaswedlock and vegaswedlockinvitations'
again probably in the sidebar or footer.
Take away from this :
Aside from the domain age that is difficult to overcome - neither of the sites have any kind of " power links" coming in. ( i.e. .edu or .gov domains ). building enough blogs and posts on them - seems to be the key here
